Write short note on:

Lithosphere

The lithosphere consists of land. It consists of three layers. The crust, the mantle, and the core.

A core is further divided into two- the inner core and the outer core. The deeper The deeper we go into the earth, the hotter it becomes.

These layers are all made up of rocks & minerals. The crust is the outermost layer, the mantle is the middle layer, and the core is the innermost layer of the lithosphere.

Atmosphere

The atmosphere is the realm of the air. It is composed of gases.

These gases include Nitrogen, Oxygen, Carbon dioxide, Water vapour, and others.

The atmosphere is composed of layers from the ground to the sky, namely Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Ionosphere, and Exosphere.

The atmosphere contains 78 percent nitrogen, 0.03 percent carbon dioxide, 29.9 percent oxygen, and 0.01 percent other gases. There is life on Earth because of the atmosphere.

Short Question and Answers

Earth’s inner core is solid because of what?

Ans The Earth’s inner core remains solid due to the immense pressure exerted on it by the outer layers.

Water cycle – what is it?

All forms of water are constantly moving. The water in rivers and oceans moves into the atmosphere and then back to the rivers and oceans. This continuous movement of water is called the water cycle. Evaporation, condensation, and precipitation are the three stages.

From lowest to highest, arrange the mesosphere, exosphere, stratosphere, troposphere, and ionosphere.

Ans Troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, ionosphere and exosphere.

What is the biosphere?

Ans Biosphere refers to the sphere on Earth where life exists. The biosphere covers all spheres, including the lithosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere.

What is the Earth composed of?

Ans Earth consists of four spheres or realms: the lithosphere, the hydrosphere, the atmosphere, and the biosphere.

Why is the Earth called the blue planet?

Water covers nearly 71% of the Earth’s surface. This is why the Earth is called the Blue Planet.

Describe one important aspect of each realm of the Earth.

Ans Lithosphere is the realm of the land. Humans live on the lithosphere, the uppermost layer of the lithosphere.

The hydrosphere is the sphere of water. Life cannot exist without water.

Life on Earth depends on the atmosphere, the realm of air. The atmosphere contains oxygen, which we breathe.

The biosphere is the sphere in which life exists on Earth. It includes all the plants and animals, including ourselves.

What are the different layers of the lithosphere?

The lithosphere consists of three layers-the crust, the mantle, and the core. The core is further divided into the inner and outer cores. The deeper we go into the Earth, the hotter it becomes, so the layers change from solid to semi-solid gradually. Due to the immense force exerted on the inner core by the upper layers, only the inner core remains solid.
