What are the main organs of the UN? what are their functions.

There are six main organs of the UN:

General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council, Trusteeship Council, International Court of Justice, and Secretariat.

  • General Assembly – The main function of the Assembly is to establish peace and security in the world.
  • Security Council – Ensures international peace and security
  • Economic and Social Council – promotes economic growth and social progress.
  • Trusteeship Council – aided in the formation of self-government.
  • International Court of justice – resolves disputes between countries in accordance with international law
  • Secretariat – The Secretariat is responsible for the UN’s day-to-day operations.

 

Important Points of the Chapter-

The United Nations was founded on 24 October 1945. There are 193 members and six organs.

The International Court of Justice is located in The Hague, Netherlands.
