- Hindavi Swaraj was a dream of Shivaji Maharaj.
- A “Hindavi” was anyone who lived in Hindustan, no matter what religion or group they were a part of. It was called “Hindavi Swaraj.”
THE PEOPLE IN SWARAJ DID NOT FEEL THE SEVERITY OF DROUGHT.
Shivaji Maharaj helped farmers who were suffering from drought in many ways.
- He would not pay taxes.
- Shivaji Maharaj gave the people all of the grain that was stored in the State’s granaries for free.
- During times of drought, he also fixed up different forts and built dams, bunds, and canals.
- In this way, people could make a living and did not feel the effects of the drought.
SHIVAJI MAHARAJ HONOURED MALAMMA DESAI.
Mallamma Desai, was a brave woman from Beawadi in Karnataka.
- She fought a big battle to protect the palace.
- Shivaji Maharaj called her his younger sister when he heard about how brave she was.
- He also gave her the name “Savitri” and gave her back her fortress and villages with honor.
