When people are attracted to an area, it becomes densely populated. Factors that influence this include favorable climate; good supplies of natural resources and fertile land.
Answer the following questions.
(i) Why are people considered a resource?
People are considered a resource because they have the potential to contribute to the development and progress of the country. They can turn natural resources into valuable assets through their demands and capabilities. People who are healthy, educated and motivated can contribute to the economy and society by participating in various sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, services, etc.
(ii) What are the causes for the uneven distribution of population in the world?
There are a lot of factors that affect population distribution around the world:
Population is higher in areas with good agricultural and economic conditions due to topography, climate, soil fertility, water availability, and mineral resources.
Various social, cultural, and economic factors: Areas with better housing, education, health care, religious significance, and industrial opportunities attract more people.
(iii) The world population has grown very rapidly. Why?
The world population has been rapidly increasing due to several reasons. Firstly, medical science and healthcare facilities have improved significantly in recent years, providing better healthcare and reducing mortality rates, especially among infants and young children. Secondly, modern agricultural techniques have advanced, leading to an increase in food production and making it more reliable. Lastly, in some areas, high birth rates are contributing to population growth, even as death rates have declined.
(iv) Discuss the role of any two factors influencing population change…
Two factors that affect population change are the birth rate and the death rate. The birth rate refers to the number of live births per 1,000 people. A high birth rate can result in rapid population growth, while a low birth rate can slow down population growth. On the other hand, the death rate indicates the number of deaths per 1,000 people. Lower death rates, particularly in infant and child mortality, can contribute to population growth. It is important to note that both birth and death rates play a crucial role in determining population growth or decline.
(v) What is meant by population composition?
Population composition refers to the structure of a population, which includes characteristics such as age, sex, literacy level, health condition, occupation, income level, and more. It helps us understand the demographics and socio-economic profiles of a population.
