Locust is a type of insect. According to an estimation approximately there are 11000 species found in the world. The locusts live in groups and are usually found in desert regions. They are 1 and a half to 2 inches long and have strong wings to fly. They have 2 antennae-like hairs on their head. They tend to move in the direction of the wind. The locusts that attack Gujarat are desert locusts. It is also known as a voracious locust due to its habit of eating exactly equal to its own weight. Locusts can seriously damage orchards, such as mango, lemon, dry dates, pomegranates, etc that have been prepared with years of hard work. To repel the locusts people beat drums or make loud noises to stop them from entering the field.
