What is Mensuration?

Mensuration is the branch of mathematics that deals with the measurement of length, area, and volume.

Definition of Perimeter

The Perimeter is the Sum of the Lengths of all the sides of a closed figure.

Definition of Polygon

Polygons with equal sides and angles are called regular polygons.

Definition of Area

The amount of area enclosed by a closed figure is called its area.

Perimeter Formulas

Formulae to Calculate the Perimeter of Rectangle

= 2 (L *B)

Formulae to Calculate the Perimeter of Square

= 4 * L of Sides

Formulae to Calculate the Perimeter of Triangle with Equal Sides.

= 3 * L of Side

Formulae to Calculate the Perimeter of Rhombus

= 4 * L of Slide

Formulae to Calculate the Perimeter of Pentagon

= 5 * L of Slide

[Here L stands for Length and B stands for Breadth]

Area Formulas

Area of a Square = Side * Side

Area of a rectangle = Length * Breadth

Mensuration Class 6 Worksheet Solve the following

[Q] Find the perimeter of a rectangle whose length is 8 cm and breadth is 6 cm.

Solution-

  • Perimeter of Rectangle = 2 (L *B)
  • 2 * ( 8 * 6 )
  • 2 * 48
  • 96
  • Perimeter of a Rectangle is 96 cm.

[Q] Calculate the perimeter of a square of side 4 cm?

Solution –

  • Perimeter of Square = 4 * L of Sides
  • P = 4 * 4
  • P = 16
  • Perimeter of a square is 16 cm.

[Q] Calculate the perimeter of an equilateral triangle whose side is 12 cm.

Solution –

  • Perimeter of Triangle = 3 * L of Side
  • P = 3 * 12
  • P = 36
  • Perimeter of a triangle is 36 cm

[Q] Calculate the perimeter of rhombus whose side is 5 cm.

Solution

  • Perimeter of Rhombus = 4 * L of Slide
  • P = 4 * 5
  • P = 20
  • Perimeter of rhombus is 20 cm.

[Q] If one of the sides of the square is 10 cm long, calculate its area.

Solution

  • Area of a Square = Side * Side
  • A = 10 * 10
  • A = 100 cm
  • Thus the area is 100 sq cm

[Q] The length of a rectangle is 10 cm and the width 8 cm. Find its area.

Solution

  • Area of a rectangle = Length * Breadth
  • A = 10 * 8
  • A = 80 cm
  • Thus the area is 80 sq cm
