Q- What is the principle of division of power ?

The principle of division of power means that the government splits its powers among different branches – Legislative, Executive, and Judiciary. Each branch has its own tasks, so no single branch can have all the power. This prevents misuse of power and helps in efficient functioning. For instance, the Legislature makes laws, but the Executive and Judiciary ensure they are fair and not harmful. Similarly, each branch is kept in check by the others. This way, no single part of the government can control everything in India.

 

Q- What is the eligibility of a member of Parliament ?

Eligibility for Lok Sabha:

  • Indian citizen, minimum 25 years old.
  • Not mentally unstable, bankrupt, or criminal.
  • Not a government employee.

 

Eligibility for Rajya Sabha:

  • Indian citizen, at least 30 years old.
  • Not mentally unstable, bankrupt, or criminal.
  • Not a government employee or holding a position for profit.

 

Q- What is the Quorum for the Loksabha and the Rajyasabha ?

Quorum for Lok Sabha:

  • Minimum 1/10th of total members required.
  • So, at least 55 out of 552 members must be present for decisions to be valid.

Quorum for Rajya Sabha:

  • Minimum 1/10th of total members required.
  • Thus, at least 25 out of 250 members need to be present for decisions to be valid.

 

Q-How are the members of the Rajyasabha elected ?

Rajya Sabha Composition:

  • Total members: 245 (233 elected + 12 nominated by President).
  • 238 members elected by State and Union Territory Legislative Assemblies.
  • Remaining 12 members nominated by the President, known for achievements in fields like literature, science, arts, culture, sports, and social service.
  • A person can only be a member of one House at a time.

 

Q- How is the Speaker the protector of the diginity of the House ?
