CG Board Class 8 Geography Chapter 1 Resource Solutions

Answer the following questions.

(i) Why are resources distributed unequally over the earth?
(i) Resources are distributed unequally over the Earth due to variations in physical factors such as terrain, climate, and altitude. Different regions of the world naturally possess different types and quantities of resources because these physical factors vary significantly across the planet. For example, regions with fertile soil, abundant water sources, and favorable climates are more likely to have rich agricultural resources, while regions with mineral-rich geology may have valuable mineral resources. These natural variations in physical conditions lead to the unequal distribution of resources.

(ii) What is resource conservation?
(ii) Resource conservation refers to the responsible and careful use of natural resources to ensure their long-term availability for future generations. It involves strategies and practices aimed at using resources efficiently, reducing waste, and preventing overexploitation. Resource conservation may include reducing consumption, recycling, reusing materials, and implementing sustainable management practices to protect and preserve natural resources.

(iii) Why are human resources important?
(iii) Human resources are important because they have the knowledge, skills, and technology to harness and create more resources from natural and human-made materials. Human resources play a crucial role in converting natural substances into valuable resources and using them for various purposes, such as building infrastructure, developing technology, and improving living standards. Education and health are essential for enhancing the quality of human resources, enabling them to contribute effectively to resource development and sustainable growth.

(iv) What is sustainable development?
(iv) Sustainable development is an approach to economic and social progress that seeks to meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It involves finding a balance between economic growth, environmental protection, and social well-being. Sustainable development aims to minimize negative impacts on the environment, conserve natural resources, and promote equitable and inclusive development. It emphasizes long-term planning, responsible resource use, and the preservation of biodiversity to ensure a harmonious coexistence between human activities and the environment.
