Chapter 4 Nutrition in Living Organism | Maharashtra Board Class 7 Science | class 7 science chapter 4 nutrition in living organisms notes
Fill in the blanks:
- The transport system of plants consists of the ………and the ……….. [xylem and phloem]
- Food is sucked by butterflies with a tube-like ……….[proboscis]
Answer the following questions:
[Que] Define Foodstuffs.
Foodstuffs are substances digested and assimilated by our bodies to obtain energy and maintain health.
[Que] Define Scavengers.
Scavengers obtain their food from dead bodies of animals, for example, vulture, crow, hyena, etc.
[Que] Define Decomposers.
Microbes that decompose dead bodies or other materials for food are known as decomposers
[Que] Define Ectoparasitic Nutrition.
Ectoparasitic nutrition refers to eating the blood of other animals and is referred to as ectoparasites, for example, louse, bedbugs, ticks, etc.
[Que] Define Endoparasitic Nutrition.
The tapeworm and roundworm are two animals that live inside the bodies of other animals and consume their food. This is called endoparasitism, and these animals are called parasites.
[Que] Define Saprozoic nutrition.
Saprozoic nutrition includes the use of liquid organic substances from the dead bodies of other animals or from the environment by insects, unicellular animals, etc. Examples include houseflies, ants, spiders, etc.
[Que] Define Parasitic Nutrition.
There are some animals that are dependent on other animals for food. These animals can only obtain food from animals they are dependent upon. This is called parasitic nutrition.
[Que] How are nutrients classified?
Nutrients can be classified into two types, namely, macro-nutrients and micronutrients
The macronutrients are carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. The micronutrients are minerals and vitamins, which are required in very small amounts.
[Que] How do plants produce their own food?
With the help of sunlight and chlorophyll, plants make their own food in their leaves, using water and nutrients from the soil and carbon dioxide from the air. This process is called photosynthesis.
[Que] How Ingestion occurs in Amoeba.
In amoebae, there are no organs like hands and mouths. As a unicellular animal, it can consume food through any part of its surface. In order to take the food into the cell, the particle surrounds it from all sides. After this, different enzymes are used to digest it. Undigested food is left behind as the amoeba moves forward with pseudopodia.
