e) Heating water kept at 0oC leads to an increase in volume.[T]

  1. Answer the following questions –

Q- Why is there a water crisis even thoughth of the Earth’s surface is covered by water?

A large portion of the water covers three-quarters of the Earth’s surface, but is locked in ice sheets or is saline, leaving only a small portion of the freshwater available for human use, creating a water crisis.

Q- What would happen if all the sources of water in a forest, dry up?

If all the water sources in a forest dry up, severe drought conditions will occur, making the survival of plants, animals, and humans dependent on those water sources. This will disrupt the environmental balance and lead to huge environmental damage.

Q- Explain water cycle on earth.

The water cycle on Earth involves the continuous movement of water between the atmosphere, land, and oceans through evaporation, condensation, precipitation, infiltration, runoff, and transpiration. Water from oceans, lakes and rivers evaporates, forms clouds through condensation, then falls back to earth as rain, replenishing water sources and sustaining life.

Q- How will you make a saturated solution of sugar? What would happen if this solution is heated?

Add sugar to water and stir until most of the sugar dissolves. There will be undissolved sugar solution below. Heating the solution will increase sugar solubility. The excess sugar will dissolve until a new balanced concentration is reached.

Q- Water containing salts is a good conductor of electricity. Give an activity to explain it.

Activity: Add a teaspoon of salt to the water, then set up an electrolysis apparatus with two electrodes connected to a power source. Place the electrode in the salt water solution and observe the flow of electricity; The presence of ions in solution makes it a good conductor of electricity.

Q- What is water pollution? Write the causes of water pollution.

Water pollution is caused by hazardous substances, chemicals, pathogens and pollutants released from water bodies such as rivers, lakes, oceans and groundwater. Industrial discharge, agricultural runoff, improper waste disposal, sewage discharge, oil spills and garbage are some examples of water pollution.

Q- What would you do to stop water pollution in your city/village?

I can reduce water pollution in my city or village by reducing pollution discharge, promoting proper waste management and sewage treatment, organizing community cleaning campaigns and making people aware about the need to conserve water.

Q- What is meant by rain water harvesting?

Rainwater harvesting is collecting and storing water for multiple purposes such as irrigation, domestic purposes and groundwater recharge. Techniques such as construction of rain gardens to capture and store rain water, rooftop rain water harvesting, construction of reservoirs or tanks and construction of check dams etc. can achieve this.
