Numerator and denominator
The number above the dividing line is called the numerator.
The number below the dividing line is called the denominator.
Write the numerator and denominator in the following fractions
2/3 = Numerator ___ Denominator ____ Ans = N = 2 , D = 3
6/9 = Numerator ___ Denominator ____ Ans = N = 6 , D = 9
7/8 = Numerator ___ Denominator ____ Ans = N = 7 , D = 8
Ascending and descending order in fractions
5/5 > 4/5 > 3/5 >2/5 > 1/5 is in descending order
It means when all the denominators are the same the greater numerator has a greater value.
1/5 < 2/5 < 3/5 < 4/5 < 5/5 is in ascending order
Fractions with the same denominator are called like fractions.
Put Greater than > or Less than <
6/9 ……….. 2/9 = >
5/11 ………..1/11 = >
17/19 ………13/19 = >
1/3 ……….. 2/3 = <
Arrange in Ascending Order.
2/9 , 7/9 , 3/9 , 5/9 =
Ans. – 2/9 , 3/9 , 5/9 , 7/9
3/10 , 2/10 , 4/10 , 9/10
Ans. – 2/10 , 3/10 , 4/10 9/10
Arrange in descending order .
3/5 , 4/5 ,1/5 , 5/5
Ans. – 5/5 , 4/5 ,3/5 ,1/5
2/8 , 6/8 , 1/8 , 7/8
Ans.- 1/8 ,2/8 ,6/8 ,7/8
Equivalent Fractions:-
Fractions with the same or equal value are called equivalent fractions.
Suppose we have to make an equivalent fraction of 2/3 = 2×2 /3×2 = 4/6
if you simplify 4/6 you will get 2/3.
Write equivalent fraction of 1/4.
1/4 = 2/8 , 3/12 , 4/16
Adding Fractions:-
2/5 + 1/5 = 3/5
when we add two or more fractions with the same denominator add the only numerator, the denominator remains the same.
3/7 + 2/7 = 5/7
How do you multiply fractions?
