GSEB Class 9 Social Science Chapter 13 Solution India : Location ,Geological Structure and Physiography – I Textbook Question Answers as well as Additional Question and Answers.
Write short answers for the following questions :
(1) India has a strategic location. Explain.
India has a strategic location due to its position in the eastern hemisphere, its long maritime boundary in the Indian Ocean, and its proximity to major international waterways like the Suez Canal.
(2) Why is the physiography of India diversified ? Explain.
The physiography of India is diversified due to various geological processes such as tectonic movements, volcanic activities, and erosional forces, resulting in the formation of mountains, plains, plateaus, and coastal areas.
(3) Why has the international trade of India become easy?
The international trade of India has become easy due to its strategic location, extensive coastline, and access to major waterways, facilitating maritime trade with various regions of the world.
(4) India has become a place of ‘cultural confluence’ – Explain.
India has become a place of ‘cultural confluence’ due to its long history of trade, cultural exchanges, and acceptance of diverse religions, races, and people, leading to a rich and diverse cultural heritage.
(5) State how many tectonic plates are there? Which are they?
There are seven major tectonic plates: Pacific plate, North American plate, South American plate, Eurasian plate, African plate, Indo-Australian plate, and Antarctic plate.
Explain the concept of the following terms:
(1) Standard Time
Standard time refers to the time established for a given time zone, usually based on the mean solar time at a specific longitude, such as the standard time of India based on the 82°30′ east longitude.
(4) Divergent
Divergent refers to the movement of tectonic plates away from each other. This movement leads to the formation of new crust as magma rises to fill the gap between separating plates, resulting in features like mid-ocean ridges and rift valleys.
(2) Tropic of Cancer
The Tropic of Cancer is an imaginary line located at approximately 23°5′ north latitude. It marks the northernmost position where the sun appears directly overhead at noon, occurring during the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere.
(5) Hemisphere
A hemisphere is half of the Earth’s surface divided by either the equator (resulting in the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere) or the prime meridian (resulting in the Eastern Hemisphere and Western Hemisphere).
(3) Peninsula
A peninsula is a landmass surrounded by water on three sides, often jutting out into a body of water. India’s southern region, known as the Indian Peninsula, is surrounded by the Arabian Sea to the west, the Bay of Bengal to the east, and the Indian Ocean to the south.
(6) Circulation
Circulation refers to the movement or flow of air, water, or other substances within a specific system or region, such as atmospheric circulation patterns or ocean currents.
Answer the following questions :
(1) Give information about the location and area of India.
India is located in the northern hemisphere, extending from approximately 8° 4′ to 37° 6′ north latitudes and from 68° 7′ to 97° 25′ east longitudes. Its total area is approximately 32.8 lakh sq. km.
(2) How was India benefitted due to the opening of Suez Canal? Explain.
India benefited from the opening of the Suez Canal as it reduced the distance between India and Europe by about 7000 kilometers, facilitating shorter and faster maritime trade routes and enhancing economic exchanges with European countries.
