Nouns Definition of Noun and its Types

These are nouns that refer to ideas, concepts, emotions, or qualities that cannot be perceived through the senses, such as “love,” “happiness,” or “freedom.”

Example: Truth, lies, happiness, sorrow, time, friendship, etc.

Concrete Noun:

These are nouns that refer to physical objects that can be seen, touched, tasted, smelled, or heard, such as “chair,” “apple,” .

Countable Noun:

These are nouns that can be counted or quantified, such as “book,” “car,” or “child.”

Un-countable Noun:

These are nouns that cannot be counted or quantified, such as “water,” “air,” or “information.”

Collective Noun:

These are nouns that refer to groups of people, animals, or things, such as “team,” “family,” or “herd.”

Example: family, team, jury, cattle, etc.

Compound Noun:

A compound noun contains two or more words that join together to make a single noun, like “keyboard.” A compound noun is a type of compound word that is used to designate a person, place, or thing.

Instructions: Identify the nouns in the following sentences and write them down.

  1. The sun is shining brightly in the sky.
  2. My mother baked a delicious chocolate cake for my birthday.
  3. The children were playing happily in the park.
  4. The company is looking for a new marketing manager.
  5. The ocean is full of mysterious creatures.

Answers:

  1. Sun, sky
  2. Mother, cake, birthday
  3. Children, park
  4. Company, marketing manager
  5. Ocean, creatures
