In order to resolve their dispute concerning ancestral Tanjavur Jagir in the South, Shivaji Maharaj wanted to meet his step-brother Vyankoji Raje. He also wanted Vyankoji to help Swaraj.

SHIVAJI MAHARAJ PLANNED A CAMPAIGN OF THE SOUTH.
Shivaji maharaja decided to attack Karnataka. Because he thought that the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb would become a bigger problem for the swaraj in the future.So, to improve Swaraj, the south is more important. He thought that his campaign would give him a strong base in the south from which he could fight off the Mughals.
SHIVAJI MAHARAJA WROTE TO VYANKOJI RAJE AND TRIED TO PERSUADE HIM TO CHANGE HIS WAYS.
Vyankoji attacked on shivaji’s force. The attacking troops were killed in large numbers by his army, and Vyankoji Raje was defeated. Shivaji Raje was very upset by Vyankoji’s actions, so he wrote a letter to him and tried to get him to change.
