Q6 :What are stomata? Give two functions of stomata.
A leaf’s surface has tiny pores called stomata.
Stomata perform the following functions:
- Stomata help in the exchange of gases.
- Stomata allow water to evaporate from the leaf surface.
Q7 :Does transpiration serve any useful function in the plants? Explain.
- It promotes water and mineral absorption
- This helps get rid of excess water.
- Water and minerals are transported to leaves, which use the water for photosynthesis.
- It also helps in cooling the plant.
Q8 : What are the components of blood?
The main components of blood are
Plasma :The blood is composed of a fluid called plasma, in which different types of cells are suspended.
- Red blood cells (RBC): contain a red pigment called haemoglobin. Blood carries oxygen to all parts of the body through hemoglobin. It will be difficult for the body to provide oxygen efficiently to all the cells without haemoglobin. Haemoglobin makes blood appear red.
- White Blood Cells: The blood also has white blood cells (WBC) which fight against germs that may enter our body.
- Platelets are the cells within the blood which cause the clot to form.
Q9 :Why is blood needed by all the parts of a body?
Blood is an essential part of the transport system of our bodies and is needed in all parts of the body. These are some of its important functions:
- It transports oxygen from the lungs to all the cells in the body.
- It allows waste products, such as CO2, to be easily exhaled through the lungs.
- It delivers heat to the body, regulating its temperature.
- It also protects against diseases and infections.
Q10 :What makes the blood look red?
Blood appears red due to haemoglobin, a pigment in red blood cells (RBCs). It carries oxygen through the body and delivers it to all parts.
Q11 :Describe the function of the heart.
The human heart is divided into four chambers. The upper two chambers are called right and left atrium and the lower two chambers are called the right and left ventricles. Hearts pump blood continuously to carry various substances, which include other substances that it transports. Deoxygenated blood is pumped to the lungs for oxygenation, and oxygenated blood is returned to the heart. The heart pumps oxygenated blood to different parts of the body.
Q12 :Why is it necessary to excrete waste products?
Every cell in our body produces waste products. It is toxic for the body to contain these waste products, so they must be excreted. Living organisms eliminate waste products produced in their cells through excretion.
