Answer:  The different properties of air are 

  • Air is colorless and hence invisible.
  • Air has mass

Question: Why is the ozone layer important to the atmosphere?

Answer:  A layer of ozone protects humans from the harmful effects of UV rays

 

Question: What are the most significant sources of air pollution?

Answer:  The main sources of air pollution are as follows:

  • Gases are released by industries and manufacturing.
  • Fossil fuels and coal are burned.
  • The burning of wood and the emission of smoke from vehicles.
  • Volcanoes, dust storms, and forest fires are some natural causes of air pollution.

 

Question: How will you prove that oxygen is needed for burning? 

Answer:  Take a candle, a matchbox, and an empty glass tumbler. Light the candle and cover it with the inverted glass tumbler.

After a while, we will observe that the candle has been extinguished. This is due to the fact that when the candle is covered with a tumbler, the supply of oxygen is cut off, causing the candle to stop burning. This demonstrates that air supports combustion.

Answer:  Air pollution refers to the contamination of air with undesirable substances such as harmful gases, chemicals, dust particles, and so on that may be harmful to living beings.

The following are the five most serious consequences of air pollution.

  1. Acid rain
  2. Respiratory diseases
  3. Global warming
  4. Depletion of the ozone layer
