Balanced diets provide our bodies with the nutrition they need to function properly. A balanced diet provides the right amount of nutrients. Maintaining health requires a balanced diet.

Diseases that are caused by deficiencies cannot be transmitted from person to person, therefore they are called noncommunicable diseases. Anaemia, night blindness, beriberi, scurvy, rickets, etc.

There are some diseases that can be transmitted from one person to another. These are called communicable diseases. Typhoid, malaria, cholera, and even the common cold are examples.

What are the ways in which communicable diseases spread?

  • Direct contact
  • By eating and drinking
  • Through the air
  • By means of animals and insects
