As a result of the partition of India, two nations emerged India and Pakistan, and approximately 8 million refugees from Pakistan fled to India. Providing accommodation for the refugees, as well as employment, was a major challenge.

The Indian Government discharged responsibility to the people of the country very tactfully. A huge refugee camp was set up after the refugees were united and a new life was established.

India had 562 independent states at the time. At the same time, convincing these states to join the Indian Union was a daunting task, and building a constitution and political system that could meet their expectations and aspirations was also a challenge

India had a population of around 35 crores in 1947. These people’s languages, clothing, regions, and cultures differed, but the development of national integration at independence was also necessary despite all these differences.

A large section of the population lived in villages and was engaged in agriculture, as well as dirty cities, densely populated areas, poverty, lack of education and health facilities and the problems of agriculture and associated employment in rural areas are also challenging.

Que. – When was Junagadh merged with Indian Union?

As the Nawab of Junagadh signed the Treaty to join Pakistan, the citizens of Junagadh in Mumbai formed the Aarzi Hukumat to join the Indian Union. Almost all Saurashtra states and people opposed the Nawab alliance with Pakistan.

After the Nawab of Junagadh migrated to Pakistan, India occupied Junagadh and the people of Junagadh supported an alliance with the Union of India. Junagadh was merged into the Union of India.
