SPEED , DISTANCE & TIME Class 5 Worksheet | formula for speed distance time by OS
What is Speed ?
Distance travelled by an object in a given amount of time is called speed.
Formulae to calculate Speed
Speed = distance covered / time taken
S = d/t
Generally, speed is measured in km/hr (kilometer per hour) or m/sec (metre per second).
If the speed is measured in kilometers per hour, the distance must be in kilometres and the time must be in hours.
If the speed is measured in m/s, the distance must be in metres, and the time must be in seconds.
A four-wheeler can cover 180 kilometres in 3 hours. What is the distance covered in an hour?
Solution – Distance covered in 3 hours = 180 kilometres Distance covered in 1 hour = 180/3 = 60 kilometres
This is the speed of the Four Wheeler that is 60km/hr.
A train travels at a uniform speed of 70 km/hr for a distance of 250 km. How long will it take to cover this distance?
Solution –
Distance covered = 250 km Speed = 70 km/hr
Time = distance covered / speed = 250/70
T = 250/70 = 3.5 hours
