Land resources

The upper layer of the earth’s surface on which vegetation usually grows is the soil. The soil is a thin layer made up of many particles on the earth’s crust. Small and large pieces of rocks, gravel, clay, and organic silt are called regolith. In these organic elements, air and water are mixed and soil is formed. Any country’s economic development is determined by the type and quality of its soil.

 

Desert of Ladakh

It is located in the north of India. Ladakh is a cold desert region in India. The Indus River is the main river here. The air here is very thin and the climate is cold and dry due to the high altitude. In summer, temperatures rise to above 0 degrees Celsius during the day and fall to below -30 degrees Celsius at night. Rainfall is very rarely seen in Ladakh. Ladakh also called Kha-pa-chan means glacier.

 

Conservation/preservation of wildlife

The following steps should be taken for wildlife conservation:

  • Poaching of wildlife must be stopped through strict enforcement.
  • The importance of wildlife conservation should be explained to people.
  • Forest fires need to be extinguished quickly.
  • Provide medical treatment to wild animals
  • Through the media, awareness should be raised.
  • The wildlife should be provided with adequate food, water, and habitat.

  • Teak,salwood, and timber are used to make furniture.
  • Sports articles are made from cedar and pine.
  • Baskets, paper rayon, etc. can be made from bamboo.
  • We get glue honey etc from forests.
  • Forest provides livelihood to the people living in it.

Date palms and thorny vegetation are found in the Sahara desert. due to the desert, very little vegetation is found. an oasis surrounded by palm trees is found in this desert.

 

What is water scarcity?

Water scarcity means a shortage of drinking water. Water is a precious gift from nature. Growing populations, increasing urbanization, and rising living standards have led to increases in water demand. Water is needed for cleaning and preserving the environment. Currently, we face growing water scarcity in many parts of our country.

 

Which are the remedies to prevent soil erosion?

To prevent soil erosion, trees should be planted in fallow land, step farming should be practiced on sloping land, a barrier should be constructed, and land grazing should be controlled.
